ABOUT TIBET FILM FESTIVAL LONDON

Tibet Film Festival London was founded in 2019 by Kunsang Kelden and Dechen Pemba. Although keeping an emphasis on film, successful events since 2019 have included concerts, fundraising events and a zine-making workshop. See below for highlights from Tibet Film Festival London over the years!

Founded in 2009 in Zürich (Switzerland), the Festival has since successfully expanded to and takes place annually in Dharamsala (India), Berlin (Germany) and London (UK), showcasing films made by Tibetans in Tibet and in the diaspora. It is the first festival dedicated solely to Tibetan creatives and seeks to present Tibetan cinematic perspectives to a global audience.

The London team is made up of volunteer curators, producers, translators and editors who have worked together on four festivals to date (due to the pandemic, there were no events held in 2020 and 2021). The Film Festival in London over the years has kept a focus on film while gradually expanding to include poetry events, staged readings, workshops and live performance events featuring collaborations with world renowned musicians.

Since starting at Deptford Cinema in south east London, the festival is now held in venues such as Genesis Cinema and Rio Cinema in East London. The festival has also partnered with London Buddhist Centres and arts spaces such as the October Gallery in Holborn.
